If you are considering becoming a teacher and want to play an active role in shaping the future, then a teacher education degree at Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) is the right choice for you.
Here, we prepare you for a fulfilling career in education in an inspiring environment.
Pathways to teaching: from university studies to further training
Teacher education consists of three phases:
1. University studies: The first phase comprises a two-subject Bachelor's degree (teaching profile), which lasts six semesters, followed by a two-year Master's degree (‘Master of Education’).
2. Teaching internship: This preparatory period lasts 18 months and is organised by the study seminar.
3. In-service training: Teachers already working in schools participate in ongoing training courses coordinated by the Uniplus teacher education programme (at LUH).
Why study teaching at Leibniz University Hannover?
- Diversity in your studies: Choose from a wide range of 17 subjects for teaching at secondary schools, vocational schools or special education schools.
- Excellent teaching: Experience sound, science-based training in specialist subjects, didactics and educational sciences.
- Practical relevance: Gain valuable experience through innovative internship opportunities.

Structure of the programme
At LUH, you choose two subjects for your teacher education programme. For teaching at vocational schools, you choose a vocational subject and a teaching subject, and for special education, you choose special education and a teaching subject. When making your decision, consider your interests, talents, needs and any admission restrictions. Questions you might ask yourself include:
- Which subjects am I passionate about?
- Which aspects of the course fascinate me?
- Do I have the necessary qualifications for the subjects I have chosen?
- Are there any admission restrictions for my desired subjects?
- Which subject combinations allow me to do my teaching internship in Lower Saxony?
