BIKO-LAMB requires a specific sequence of modules, starting with Module A. You can only have Modules B, C and D recognised for BIKO-LAMB if they were completed after Module A.
DaZ/DaF Workshop
The seminar provides students with a practical introduction to the fundamentals of teaching German as a second language (DaZ) and German as a foreign language (DaF), and focuses in particular on developing professional skills in teaching basic language competences to beginner learners. Theoretical sessions and practical placements are directly linked.
Students undertake their practical placements at partner schools and educational institutions, which register their requirements via the placement allocation system. Following a successful match, placements take place in various formats of DaZ/DaF support: assisting teachers in the classroom, providing learning support to individual pupils, compiling learning materials, etc.
The practical placements must be completed throughout the semester, totalling at least 60 hours, and documented via a work log. All necessary documents for this can be found in the Stud.IP course for the seminar.
To prepare for their practical placements, students have the opportunity to use the reference library, which contains numerous DaZ/DaF teaching resources – including individual advice from the project coordinators.
School of Diversity – German as a Second Language and Language Education
The seminar aims to prepare trainee teachers to deal competently and constructively with the linguistic diversity of their future pupils and, in particular, to equip them to deliver language-sensitive subject teaching.
In terms of content, the seminar is divided into the learning modules ‘Multilingualism’, ‘Linguistic Registers’ and ‘Language-Sensitive Teaching’, and enables an in-depth examination of the development of educational and subject-specific language in schools.
‘School of Diversity’ is designed as a blended-learning programme, comprising e-learning modules for independent study and joint face-to-face sessions.
